Why Use Journal Articles?

Reading lists are submitted to the LRC at the beginning of each academic year. Whilst we do our best to make sure that we have the latest editions of texts available (both in print and online), once the book is published, any new research, theories or information on a given academic discipline cannot be represented in the book in question until a new editiion is published and this can take time. Journals, due to the frequency of their publication, plug the gap between when a book was published and any research undertaken in the academic discipline in question.

It is worth noting that the LRCs eLibrary provides access to c.25,000 eJournal titles and over half a million articles which can be accessed online. Using a variety of sources also demonstrates breadth and depth within your own research. Students on Relate Institute programmes of study have access to a wide range of online journals in particular, which can be accessed 24/7 both on and off-site. For further information on how to reference these sources, visit the Harvard Referencing area of this LibGuide.
