Reading for pleasure is one of the most powerful tools you can use to boost your brain. Not only does it help you academically and with employability, but it can also help you build confidence, curiosity and empathy.

This scheme is designed to ignite a love of reading by supporting you to read more.

What's in it for me?

On top of gaining literacy skills, academic skills, and health benefits, you can also receive the following:

  • A Bronze, Silver, or Gold certificate of achievement.

Frequently asked questions

The challenge will run from September until 2nd April 2026, with award ceremonies and prize draws taking place during the Summer term.

Don't worry, you don't have to write a huge book review. It doesn't have to be positive either! If you're stuck, try asking yourself some of these questions:

  • How did it make you feel? Was it funny, sad, thought-provoking?
  • Did you want to keep reading, or was it not your thing?
  • How did it compare to other things you've read?
  • Did you have a favourite character? What did you like about them?
  • Did you learn something new?

Pop into the LRC to browse the shelves, or look online via LRC Search (you can explore the Doncaster collection and the UCNL/North Lindsey collection). If you're at Doncaster you can also browse the TikTok Bookcase in the FE LRC. Our friendly LRC staff are always happy to help you find what you want!

Of course! Speak to a member of staff and give us details of the book, and we'll see if we can add it to our collection. You can also email us at lrc@dncolleges.ac.uk if you have a recommendation.

No! You can read books, including novels, biographies etc. But you could also read graphic novels, comics, poetry, recipes, journal articles, self-help guides, magazines, travel guides, match-day programmes, plays, news articles, DIY manuals, atlases, match reports. There are so many options beyond books and all count towards this challenge.

If you have any questions, contact us at lrc@dncolleges.ac.uk or speak to a member of staff in the LRC.
