Abuse

As an early years professional it is important that you learn to recognise the potential signs of abuse.

There are four main types of abuse:

  • Physical abuse
  • Emotional abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Neglect

If you have a good understanding of the expected development and behaviour of the children in your care, you will be more able to pick up on behaviour which is inappropriate for their age.

This inappropriate behaviour can be an indication that a child is being abused in some way.
